Festivalul lanternelor, Burnaby, Vancouver

Filed under: About Life & Everything, English, Living in Vancouver, BC — Lucian Savluc @ 12:28 pm

Este vorba despre “Night of Lights Lantern Festival”, un eveniment care are loc anual chiar in zona unde locuim.

Romania, Linux and FLOSS

Filed under: About Life & Everything, English, eLiberatica & ROSI — Lucian Savluc @ 10:02 am

Carmen Holotescu and Sabin Buraga presented ROSI and eLiberatica initiative to the Romanian “Linux and virtual e-learning environments” seminar at Arad.
The event was organized by some of high profile Romanian IT academics like Antoanela Naaji,  Mihai Jalobeanu, Dragos Acostachioaie si Sabin Buraga.

There is a powerful Linux community In Romania (my feeling is that till now, in Romania, FLOSS = Linux, mainly) but I hope that ROSI are going to take the flag and give a broader sense to Open Source and Free Software. And the ones that love Linux will join us.

Indeed, Linux was one of the most important software that demonstrated the power of FLOSS, but FLOSS is much more than that. It is a concept, a philosophy and a method that covers the entire IT domain and all the people involved in this field and all the users that have contact with a computer should benefit and know about it.

And this is what eLiberatica should present in Romania

O zi obisnuita in Vancouver

Filed under: About Life & Everything, Living in Vancouver, BC, Romanian — Lucian Savluc @ 4:48 pm

Drupal localization module for eLiberatica

Filed under: English, eLiberatica & ROSI — Lucian Savluc @ 12:07 pm

I spent the latest days implementing Drupal for eLiberatica website. One of the challenges of the website is to have it bilingual. A lot of local Romanian websites dealing with international conferences are only in English.

From my point of view, localization is a very important issue, especially when speaking of Open Sources and Free Software.

I found a nice working module for Drupal named localizer. Roberto Gerola is the author and I wish to thank him using this occasion for helping me and giving me proper advice every time when I was in need. He is planning to release another interesting module for Drupal soon.

Good luck Roberto and thanks for helping ROSI and eLiberatica.

Adobe acquires a Romanian IT company

Filed under: English, News & Bolts — Lucian Savluc @ 10:38 am

This time is about InterAKT, well known for their bundle of some of the most popular Dreamweaver extensions.
Beside Kollection that is costing around $400 they also provided some free products like PHAkt and JSEclipse.

I don’t know if this is good or bad news for IT community  (I hope they will continue to be involved with open source and offering free solutions), but for sure is a recognition of the quality of Romanian IT professionals.

Congratulations for InterAKT team.

About how InterAKT started and all the story you can read more on Alexandru, Bogdan and Cristi  blogs.
